Zuffa Boxing is making other plans for Richardson Hitchins in early 2027, according to veteran reporter Dan Rafael, pushing back on the proposed matchup with Keyshawn Davis appearing on the Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua card. "Not happening on Fury-Joshua at this point if at all," Rafael wrote on October 30.

Rafael also reported that Davis is now a promotional free agent after being released by Top Rank with one fight remaining on his contract, ending the immediate path to the all-American welterweight clash. Hitchins himself had said on October 26 that neither he nor his team had refused a fight with Davis.

Hitchins, 21-0 with eight knockouts, signed with Zuffa in July after vacating his super-lightweight world title to campaign at 147 pounds, and beat Ricardo Salas by shutout decision in New York the same month. Davis, the Olympic silver medallist, is 15-0 with ten knockouts after stopping Jamaine Ortiz in January and beating Nahir Albright in a May rematch. For now, their paths appear set to diverge rather than collide.
