Yankees Outfielder Trent Grisham Elects Free Agency After Down Season in Bronx
New York Yankees centre fielder Trent Grisham has officially elected free agency and can sign with any team this winter.

New York Yankees centre fielder Trent Grisham has officially elected free agency, according to MLB.com's transaction listings from October 29, and is now free to sign with any team this winter. The 29-year-old is coming off a down season in the Bronx, finishing the year batting .211 with 88 hits, 18 home runs, 59 RBIs, 67 runs scored and nine stolen bases in 121 games. The Yankees' season ended on October 7 when they lost 4-3 to the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3 of the American League Division Series. Grisham, who arrived in New York from San Diego in the December 2023 trade headlined by Juan Soto, will nonetheless be an intriguing name on the open market given his power, speed and defensive ability in centre field. Teams looking for outfield help this winter will weigh his down year against his track record, and there remains a chance he returns to the Bronx. He is one of a growing list of players to hit the market as option decisions are resolved across the league ahead of the December 1 expiration of the current collective bargaining agreement.
