WTA to Match Men's Prize Money at All Combined 1000 Events From 2027

The WTA has taken a landmark step toward pay parity, announcing that all combined WTA 1000 tournaments will award equal prize money to their ATP counterparts starting in 2027. The Italian Open is among the events joining the parity list under the new commitment. The tour described the move as a milestone more than half a century in the making, tracing back to the Original Nine's fight for recognition in the early 1970s. The announcement arrived alongside the release of the 2027 calendar and a package of player-tournament reforms developed through the Tour Architecture Council, the body set up to modernize the sport's governance. There is one important caveat: the parity pledge covers combined events only, where men and women play at the same venue in the same week. Standalone WTA tournaments are not included. Even so, the commitment marks the most significant structural advance for women's tennis prize money in a generation.
