Wizards Edge Knicks 111-109 in Madison Square Garden Preseason Thriller
Anthony Davis led Washington with 16 points as the Wizards held off the Knicks 111-109 at MSG on Thursday, with rookie Felix Okpara making his preseason debut.

Washington's new-look squad opened its preseason account in dramatic fashion on Thursday night, holding off the New York Knicks 111-109 in a down-to-the-wire finish at Madison Square Garden.
Anthony Davis paced the Wizards with 16 points, seven rebounds and a block, while Trae Young chipped in 15 points, four assists and two steals as the pair made their mark in Washington colors. Kyshawn George added 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench in a game that stayed tight through all four quarters.
The night also belonged to rookie Felix Okpara, who made his preseason debut after being selected 46th overall in the 2026 draft and traded to Washington. The former Tennessee and Ohio State big man posted seven points, six rebounds and an assist in 20 minutes of action, converting three of his seven field-goal attempts in a composed first outing.
2025 No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa continued his development with 11 points for the Wizards, showing the flashes that made him the top selection a year ago.
The narrow road win gives Washington early momentum before the season tips off. The Wizards return home on Saturday to face the Detroit Pistons at Capital One Arena, with the 7 p.m. EDT tip offering another look at the revamped rotation.
