Winston's Comeback Magic Saves the Day as Giants and Commanders Battle to 27-27 Tie in Season's First Deadlock

Nobody won, but everybody got a show. The New York Giants and Washington Commanders traded blows for five quarters on a rain-soaked Sunday at Northwest Stadium and walked off locked at 27-27 — the NFL's first tie of the 2026 season. Washington controlled the afternoon for three quarters behind a returning Jayden Daniels, who played with a brace on his dislocated left elbow after missing two games and racked up 103 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground. A 38-yard scamper in the third quarter and a 26-yard dash plus a two-point conversion early in the fourth pushed the Commanders ahead 27-13, and the game looked over. Jameis Winston had other ideas. The Giants quarterback, starting in place of the injured Jaxson Dart, had managed just three first-half points before catching fire. He hit Isaiah Likely for two second-half touchdowns — the second on fourth-and-8 with 7:20 remaining — then found Malik Nabers for a leaping 17-yard score with 1:43 left to complete a 24-point second half and force overtime. Winston finished 33 of 54 for 326 yards and three scores. Both teams then fumbled away victory. The Giants reached Washington's 25 in overtime before Cam Skattebo fumbled it away. Daniels drove the Commanders into field-goal range, but with 12 seconds left his run up the middle chewed the final seconds and time expired before Washington could stop the clock.
