Warren: Itauma Sticking With Trainer Davison After Hrgovic Loss

There will be no trainer change for Moses Itauma. Promoter Frank Warren confirmed on Tuesday that the 21-year-old heavyweight (14-1, 12 KOs) will stay with Ben Davison despite the criticism that followed August's stoppage defeat to Filip Hrgovic, when Itauma started aggressively but faded and was stopped in the ninth round. "He's staying with Ben and his team. That's his decision. Now he has to be judged by the results, and that's exactly what we'll do," Warren said, adding that organizing the Hrgovic fight was his own call: "I approved this fight... at the end of the day, organizing any fight is my responsibility." Davison, one of Britain's most prominent trainers, drew heavy backlash for his corner work in the Hrgovic loss — a familiar dynamic for him. He faced similar criticism when Fabio Wardley lost to Daniel Dubois earlier this year, and again when Anthony Joshua was stopped by Dubois in September 2024. Warren pointed out that Joshua himself is returning to Davison to prepare for his next fight against Tyson Fury, which he offered as evidence of the trainer's standing. Warren said Itauma is expected to return to the ring in early 2027, when, in his words, everything will be decided in practice. "Next year should be very interesting," he said.
