Voll's Triple Strike Sparks Thunder to Six-Wicket Win in WBBL Opener

Sydney Thunder made a winning start to the Women's Big Bash League season, beating Melbourne Renegades by six wickets at Junction Oval in Melbourne. The Renegades looked comfortable at the halfway mark of their innings, reaching 1 for 76, but their innings unravelled dramatically. After Hayley Matthews fell for 45 off the first ball of the 11th over, the Renegades steadied briefly to 4 for 117 before losing five wickets in just seven deliveries, eventually finishing on 138 for 9 from their 20 overs. Georgia Voll was the destroyer, taking three wickets in a single over as the Thunder seized control. In reply, the Thunder were guided by Anika Learoyd, who struck 48 from 37 balls with nine boundaries, and captain Heather Knight, who finished unbeaten on 29 from 22 deliveries. Nadine de Klerk was not out on 12 as the Thunder reached 140 for 4 in only 17 overs. There was also a bright moment for the Renegades in defeat: fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck, playing her first WBBL match in five years after a long injury absence, bowled with real pace and claimed the wickets of Learoyd and Laura Harris. But the Renegades' late collapse left them with too few runs to defend, and the Thunder cruised home to open their campaign with a comfortable victory.
