Verstappen Completes Perfect Singapore Weekend With Commanding Grand Prix Win

Max Verstappen finally conquered the Marina Bay Street Circuit on Sunday, completing a perfect weekend — sprint win, both poles and the Grand Prix — with a commanding victory in the Singapore Grand Prix, round 17 of the 2026 Formula 1 season. The four-time world champion, starting from his first pole at this venue, defended the lead from Charles Leclerc into the first corner and was never seriously threatened again. A smooth switch from soft to medium tyres on lap 33 kept him in control, even as radio problems forced the team to communicate via pit board. He crossed the line after 62 laps in 1:42:00.785 for his 73rd career win on his 250th Grand Prix start — a first Singapore triumph in ten attempts. Leclerc finished 7.3 seconds behind in second for Ferrari, while Kimi Antonelli took third for Mercedes despite a long brake pedal and a black-and-white flag for track limits, stretching his championship lead past 100 points. The McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were fourth and fifth. Lewis Hamilton gambled on an early switch to softs and no second stop, holding third until lap 55 before fading to sixth, with Piastri passing him at the final corner. George Russell drove from 19th on the grid to ninth after an engine penalty, and Isack Hadjar went from the pit lane to tenth. Gabriel Bortoleto, Franco Colapinto and Lance Stroll all retired.
