Verstappen Claims First-Ever Singapore Grand Prix Pole Under Marina Bay Lights

Max Verstappen completed a perfect Saturday at the Singapore Grand Prix, claiming pole position for Sunday's race just hours after winning the chaotic rain-delayed sprint. The Red Bull driver secured his first-ever Singapore pole at his 10th attempt under the lights at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, backing up his sprint qualifying success from Friday with a commanding performance in qualifying. Ferrari made it a two-car fight at the front, with Charles Leclerc edging teammate Lewis Hamilton for second on the grid. Championship leader Kimi Antonelli could only manage fourth for Mercedes after abandoning his final lap. The two McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri took fifth and seventh, still stinging from their final-lap collision in the earlier sprint that handed Antonelli fourth place in that race. George Russell qualified sixth but will start Sunday's race from the back of the grid due to a large engine-change penalty, joined there by Isack Hadjar after gearbox trouble kept him from setting a time in Q1. Verstappen will now chase his first-ever Singapore Grand Prix victory, having mastered the wet sprint to beat Hamilton and Leclerc.
