Vacherot Fights Back to Beat Lehecka and Win Basel Title

Valentin Vacherot completed a memorable week at the Swiss Indoors in Basel on Sunday, fighting back from a set down to defeat Jiri Lehecka 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 and lift the second title of his career. Lehecka dominated the opening set, but the Monegasque responded in the second, refusing to let his opponent back into the match as he levelled it 6-3. Vacherot then seized control immediately in the decider, breaking Lehecka's serve in the opening game to move in front. Serving to stay in the match at 5-3, Lehecka moved ahead 40-15, only for Vacherot to win four consecutive points and complete the comeback. The triumph is Vacherot's first trophy of the season and guarantees his return to the world's top 30, just two weeks after he had dropped out of that group. His run in Basel included wins over Rafael Jódar, Holger Rune and Taylor Fritz before the final. He stunned the tennis world a year earlier by winning the Shanghai Masters after coming through qualifying, and his Basel success adds another major trophy to that breakthrough. Vacherot now heads to Paris for the Rolex Paris Masters.
