Eight days out from Madison Square Garden, the UFC 334 card is whole again — thanks to a 30-fight veteran who did not hesitate when the call came.
Chinese bantamweight Alatengheili has been booked to face Juan Diaz at UFC 334 on November 14, stepping in on eight days' notice after Adrian Yanez was forced out of the fight. Yanez had been Diaz's original opponent, but he withdrew from the card due to an injury that left him hospitalised, and the promotion was left scrambling for a replacement with a week to go.
MMA journalist Marcel Dorff reported the late addition on Friday. "The UFC 334 card for next week is complete again," he wrote. "Juan Díaz remains on the card. He takes on Alatengheili in New York!!" The booking is a reported change rather than a formal UFC announcement — the promotion's public card still showed Yanez opposite Diaz when the report landed — but with 13 fights now on the bill, the event is set.
For Diaz, the switch changes the shape of his night without changing its stakes. The Peruvian bantamweight stays on one of the biggest cards of the year, in the sport's most famous arena, and still gets his chance to make an impression in front of a New York crowd. What changes is the puzzle in front of him. Alatengheili brings an 18-10-2 record and the kind of experience that cannot be taught in a training camp — thirty professional fights, against every style the division has to offer, and a willingness to take a fight on a week's notice that tells you plenty about his confidence.
That is the gamble and the gift of short-notice replacements. The newcomer arrives with nothing to lose and everything to gain, while the man who has been preparing for someone else has to throw out weeks of game-planning and start again. Diaz has spent his camp studying Yanez. Now he gets a different opponent, a different rhythm, a different set of threats — and eight days to figure them out.
The bout sits on a genuinely stacked undercard. Ciryl Gane defends his heavyweight title against Josh Hokit in the main event, Kayla Harrison meets Amanda Nunes for bantamweight gold in the co-headliner, and Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson fights the final bout of his career against Charles Radtke. It is the penultimate numbered UFC event of 2026, and the promotion clearly wants it to feel like an occasion.
Diaz against Alatengheili will not headline any posters. But these are the fights that decide whether a card holds together or falls apart in fight week, and the veteran from China has given it a chance to hold. He took the fight when the UFC needed someone to take it. Now he gets to walk into the Garden and try to ruin somebody else's night.
