Thunder Rocked as Williams and Wallace Both Headed for Surgery
Oklahoma City general manager Sam Presti confirmed on Monday that Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace both need surgery, with Williams suffering a fractured fibula and dislocated ankle and Wallace a torn shoulder labrum — and both could miss the rest of the season.

The Oklahoma City Thunder's season has been turned upside down in a single night. General manager Sam Presti confirmed on Monday that both Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace are headed for surgery, with return timelines uncertain and the possibility that neither player returns this season. Williams, an All-Star and All-NBA selection in 2024-25, suffered a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle in his left leg in the closing moments of Sunday's 108-101 win over the Los Angeles Clippers, his ankle bending awkwardly as he landed after being fouled on a drive to the basket. Wallace, named to the All-Defensive second team last season, tore the labrum in his left shoulder in the same game after running into a moving screen. Presti said Williams is in great spirits and praised his elite mindset, adding that the club is extremely optimistic about both recoveries even while refusing to dress up a brutal night. The timing could hardly be worse: Williams is in the first season of a five-year max contract worth $239 million, while Wallace signed a five-year, $139 million extension only last week and had just been promoted to a full-time starting role. The Thunder, sitting at 3-0 and on the second night of a back-to-back against Phoenix on Monday, must now rethink their title defence without two starters. Presti admitted there is no way to paint the situation differently, but insisted the setbacks will not define the group.
