Thompson's Two Goals Lift Sabres Past Kings 3-2 for Third Straight Win

Tage Thompson continued his red-hot scoring run with two goals, including a late power-play winner, as the Buffalo Sabres edged the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 at Crypto.com Arena. The win completed a sweep of Buffalo's California trip, gave the Sabres a third straight victory, and stretched their road point streak to seven games. Buffalo opened the scoring on the power play at 6:35 of the first period, when Jack Quinn worked into the slot and beat Anton Forsberg on the glove side for his eighth goal of the season. Thompson doubled the lead midway through the second, taking Zach Benson's feed down the right wing and snapping a shot inside the far post. It was Thompson's 222nd goal with Buffalo, tying Rene Robert for ninth in franchise history. Los Angeles refused to go quietly. Corey Perry cut the deficit late in the second period on a deflected power-play goal, his first of the season, and Andre Lee tied the game just 89 seconds into the third. The deadlock held until Mikey Anderson was called for tripping with 6:31 remaining. On the ensuing man advantage, Quinn found Thompson at the inner side of the left circle, and the big centre one-timed it past Forsberg at 13:40 of the third for the winner. Thompson, who also scored a hat trick at Anaheim on Thursday, now has a team-leading 10 goals, while Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 27 saves and Benson and Rasmus Dahlin each recorded two assists.
