Talbot Makes History as Blue Jackets Edge Penguins in Shootout
Cam Talbot became the first goaltender in NHL history to win a game for nine different franchises as Columbus beat Pittsburgh 3-2 in a shootout on Friday night.

Cam Talbot etched his name into the NHL record books on Friday night, becoming the only goaltender ever to earn a win for nine different franchises as the Columbus Blue Jackets edged the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 in a shootout at Nationwide Arena.
The 39-year-old, who signed a one-year deal with Columbus on September 14, made 20 saves in his Blue Jackets debut and then shut the door in the shootout, denying Rickard Rakell and Ben Kindel after Kent Johnson had scored in the first round by slipping the puck between Sergei Murashov's pads.
Columbus dominated the game but needed the extra session after blowing a 2-0 lead. Damon Severson opened the scoring on a one-timer in his season debut — his first game back since April shoulder surgery — and added an assist, while Mathieu Olivier also scored and Cole Sillinger picked up two assists. The Blue Jackets outshot Pittsburgh 45-22, with Murashov's 43 saves keeping the visitors alive long enough for Bryan Rust and Evgeni Malkin to force overtime.
The Penguins have now lost three straight (0-2-1), while Columbus improved to 2-1-0. But the night belonged to Talbot, whose winding journeyman career reached a milestone no netminder has ever touched.
