Stankoven's First Hat Trick Powers Hurricanes' 7-2 Rout of Canucks

Logan Stankoven chose quite the night for his first career hat trick. The Carolina forward scored three times — short-handed, on the power play and at even strength — to lead the Hurricanes to a 7-2 demolition of the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night in Raleigh.

Stankoven's treble, which also carried him to 100 career points, headlined a ruthless special-teams display. Carolina went 3-for-3 on the power play and a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill, with Stankoven's short-handed strike — his first — coming at a moment when Vancouver was pressing to get back into the game. He completed the hat trick with 8:24 remaining in the third.

Andrei Svechnikov scored two first-period power-play goals less than two and a half minutes apart, while K'Andre Miller and Mark Jankowski had the other Carolina tallies. Sean Walker recorded his first career four-assist game, and Shayne Gostisbehere, Jackson Blake and Taylor Hall each added two helpers. Pyotr Kochetkov made 18 saves.

Jake DeBrusk scored both Vancouver goals and Elias Pettersson added two assists, but the Canucks — playing the first stop of a six-game road trip — were buried early, managing just four shots in the opening period. Kevin Lankinen was pulled after two periods having stopped 12 of 18 shots. The win was Carolina's third straight and its first at home in three tries this season; the Hurricanes visit Chicago on Saturday while Vancouver heads to New Jersey.
