Springboks Set for Blockbuster Fiji Test Before 2027 Rugby World Cup

The Springboks already know what their final test will look like before they try to make more Rugby World Cup history.

And it won’t be an easy one.

South Africa will face Fiji on September 18, 2027, in Gosford, Australia, in their final warm-up match before the World Cup begins.

For the Springboks, the target in Australia will be enormous. They are chasing a third consecutive Rugby World Cup title, something no men’s team has ever achieved.

But Fiji are exactly the kind of opponent who can make a final preparation match uncomfortable.

Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus described Fiji as a physical and talented top-10 side and said the match should provide an important test before the tournament.

The two countries haven’t met very often either. South Africa have won all three of their previous meetings, with their most recent encounter coming at the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

South Africa will begin their 2027 World Cup campaign against Italy on October 3, while Fiji open against Spain.

It’s still a year away, but this is already one to put on the calendar.
