Shesterkin's Goalie Goal Headlines NHL's Three Stars of the Week
Igor Shesterkin became the 18th goalie in NHL history to score a goal and was named the league's First Star of the opening week.

Igor Shesterkin gave the opening week of the NHL season a moment for the history books. The New York Rangers netminder became just the 18th goaltender in league history to score a regular-season goal, and his remarkable start earned him the NHL's First Star of the Week for the week ending October 4.
Shesterkin's goal came during a 5-1 rout of the Tampa Bay Lightning on October 1 — the first ever by a Rangers goaltender — as part of a 23-save performance. The 30-year-old went 2-1-0 across three appearances with a 1.67 goals-against average and .934 save percentage, ranking second in the league with 71 saves, and even chipped in his fourth career assist in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Utah Mammoth.
The 2021-22 Vezina Trophy winner has now made 328 career appearances, all for New York, with a 189-108-28 record and 22 shutouts. He was joined among the week's stars by Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard and Canucks winger Paul Cotter. The Rangers, sitting at 3-1-0, finished the opening week atop the league standings — and their goalie is already doing it all.
