Sharks Rule Out Alex Wennberg Week-to-Week With Upper-Body Injury
San Jose Sharks center Alex Wennberg is considered week-to-week with an upper-body injury and will miss the rest of the club's road trip, head coach Ryan Warsofsky said Thursday.

The San Jose Sharks will be without one of their top centers for a while. Head coach Ryan Warsofsky said Thursday that Alex Wennberg is considered week-to-week with an upper-body injury and will miss the remaining two games of the club's current road trip. The 32-year-old alternate captain will be re-evaluated when the team returns home after road games in Ottawa and Boston.
Wennberg logged a season-low 16:29 of ice time in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs and sat out Tuesday's 4-3 overtime win against the Montreal Canadiens, with Ty Dellandrea taking his spot in the lineup. Through nine games this season, Wennberg has three assists and a minus-three rating.
The loss stings for a Sharks team holding the second wild card spot in the early going with a 5-4-1 record. San Jose signed Wennberg as an unrestricted free agent from the New York Rangers in 2024, and he rewarded them with 55 points, including a career-high 18 goals, in 80 games last season. The 6-foot-2 Swede, originally the 14th overall pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2013 draft, has 119 goals and 428 points in 878 career games across 13 seasons with Columbus, Florida, Seattle, New York, and San Jose.
Newly minted Sharks captain Macklin Celebrini currently has twice as many points as his next-closest teammates, and he will need to keep carrying the load while Wennberg recovers.
