Shadman Turns Overnight 99 Into Third Test Century as Bangladesh Build Against West Indies
Shadman Islam completed his third Test century on day two of the Mirpur Test, converting his overnight 99 into 105 against the West Indies.

Patience paid off for Shadman Islam in Mirpur. Resuming on 99 overnight, the Bangladesh opener completed his third Test century on the second morning of the first Test against the West Indies, reaching 105 from 234 balls before Joshua Bishop ended his stay. It was his first Test hundred against the West Indies and his second on home soil, after his previous two centuries had both come against Zimbabwe. Shadman's innings anchored Bangladesh's first innings after they had closed day one on 213 for three. He had batted through the opening day alongside Towhid Hridoy, who made 42 before retiring hurt with severe cramp in his left leg and leaving the field on a stretcher. Litton Das joined Shadman at the crease as Bangladesh looked to turn a solid platform into a commanding total. The West Indies had their moments with the ball. Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican was the pick of the attack with two wickets for 33 runs, while Jayden Seales struck early on day one to remove Tanzid Hasan for seven. But the tourists could not dislodge Shadman until after he had reached three figures, and the opener's discipline across more than 230 deliveries set the tone for the hosts. Bangladesh are without Mushfiqur Rahim for this opener after he suffered a contusion to his right index finger in training, with Hridoy taking his place in the side. The second Test of the series is scheduled for Sylhet from November 5.
