Senators Boss Staios Working the Phones for Scoring Help as Injuries Mount

The Ottawa Senators are already feeling the strain of a bruising start to the season, and their general manager is reportedly looking outside the organisation for help. According to a Postmedia report carried by TSN, Steve Staios has been working the phones in search of a scoring winger, with the need sharpened by the latest injury blow to his forward ranks. Warren Foegele left Tuesday's 4-1 defeat to Vegas with a knee injury after a heavy hit along the boards, and while there is still no official word on how long he will be out, the Senators are expected to dip into their AHL affiliate in Belleville to fill the gap for Thursday's trip to Los Angeles. The club is already without off-season signing William Eklund, who is likely sidelined into the new year after ankle surgery, and sits 21st in the league in scoring at 2.85 goals per game despite a promising 8-5-0 start. Among the names mentioned as possible fits are Chicago's Teuvo Teravainen, a four-time 20-goal scorer and pending free agent, Detroit forwards Andrew Copp and Michael Rasmussen, and Boston's Michael Eyssimont. Staios has dealt with Chicago boss Kyle Davidson before, landing Andre Burakovsky for a sixth-round pick in June, though that move has yet to pay off. No deal is close, and finding a genuine top-nine scorer mid-season rarely comes cheap — but the calls, the report says, are being made.
