Seahawks Back Out of Joe Mixon Deal After Physical, Reports Say
One day after reports said Seattle would sign veteran running back Joe Mixon to its practice squad, the Seahawks reversed course — ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the team opted not to sign him after a physical.

Joe Mixon's NFL comeback ended before it ever really began. One day after reports surfaced that the Seattle Seahawks planned to sign the veteran running back to their practice squad, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that the deal is off — Seattle decided not to sign Mixon after he underwent a physical with the team. The results of that physical have not been disclosed. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported Monday that Mixon had worked out for the defending Super Bowl champions and agreed to join the practice squad. The need was clear: rookie Jadarian Price landed on injured reserve, and Zach Charbonnet remains on the physically unable to perform list while recovering from a torn ACL. Head coach Mike Macdonald was blunt when asked about the move Monday, telling reporters: "We're down runners; we need running backs. He's a good running back." Mixon, 30, has not played since the 2024 season with the Houston Texans, when he ran for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns. He missed all of 2025 with a foot injury sustained away from the team facility, underwent multiple procedures, and was released by Houston in March. A highlight reel posted to his Instagram hinted at a return, and Monday's news appeared to open the door — but Seattle's reversal sends the two-time Pro Bowler back to free agency. The Seahawks move forward with Emanuel Wilson and George Holani while Charbonnet works his way back.
