Nick Schmaltz broke a third-period tie to give the Utah Mammoth a 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday. With the game locked at 2-2, Schmaltz struck on the power play at 13:12 of the third, tucking home a rebound to restore Utah's lead, and the Mammoth held on from there. Clayton Keller had three assists, while Dylan Guenther and Andrew Peeke also scored for Utah, and Sebastian Cossa made 27 saves in goal. Toronto twice fought back, with Jack Roslovic scoring both Maple Leafs goals and Auston Matthews adding two assists, but the Leafs could not find a third equaliser after Schmaltz's winner. The victory was Utah's second over Toronto this season, following a 5-4 win on October 13, and it continued a season of alternating results for the Mammoth, who improved to 10-6-0. For the Maple Leafs, playing their first home game after a 2-2-0 road trip, it was a third defeat in four games, leaving them at 8-7-2 and searching for consistency.
