Nick Schmaltz extended his season-opening goal streak to four games on Tuesday night, scoring his NHL-leading fifth goal and adding two assists as the Utah Mammoth held off the New Jersey Devils 5-3 at Prudential Center.

Schmaltz's go-ahead power-play strike at 12:05 of the second period proved the difference, capping a night in which Utah went 2-for-4 with the man advantage and improved to a remarkable 8-for-13 on the season. Clayton Keller, MacKenzie Weegar, Lawson Crouse and Vincent Trocheck also scored for the visitors, who won for the first time in five tries against New Jersey since entering the NHL in 2024-25.

The win came at a cost: Mikhail Sergachev collected three assists — reaching 300 for his career in his 634th NHL game — before leaving late in the second period after taking a puck to the helmet. Karel Vejmelka made 30 saves in his second straight start.

For the Devils, Luke Evangelista scored his first two goals for the club and Jesper Boqvist added one, while Jonas Siegenthaler left with a lower-body injury early in the third. Jake Allen made 26 saves for New Jersey, which has now lost two straight. Utah (3-1-0) heads to Boston on Thursday.
