Sam Fuld Turns Down Athletics' Offer to Become President of Baseball Operations

The Athletics' search for a new baseball operations chief took a sharp turn on Saturday. Sam Fuld was offered the club's president of baseball operations job but declined it and withdrew from consideration, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan. Fuld, who previously served as Philadelphia's general manager, will remain in his current role as the Phillies' president of business operations.

The development is a setback for an Athletics franchise that fired general manager David Forst in August, with Dan Feinstein serving as interim GM through a 64-98 season. According to ESPN, Red Sox assistant GM Taylor Smith remains a top candidate, while Cardinals assistant GM Rob Cerfolio is expected to stay in St. Louis.

Fuld played 180 games for the Athletics in 2014-15. The club is scheduled to move from Sacramento to Las Vegas after the 2027 season and last reached the playoffs in 2020.
