Russell Faces Fresh FIA Investigation After Skipping Mexico Post-Race Duties

George Russell has been summoned to see the FIA stewards following the Mexico City Grand Prix over an alleged failure to fulfil his post-race commitments, after the Mercedes driver did not take part in the usual driver media activities following the race. Every driver is required to attend the media pen after a race, unless they finish in the top three, in which case they attend the FIA press conference instead. The FIA confirmed to PlanetF1 that no dispensation had been granted to Russell for missing the session, and the matter is now subject to a formal investigation. Russell went into the race knowing his title hopes were hanging by the finest of threads: team-mate Kimi Antonelli needed only a ninth-place finish to become champion, and Antonelli did that and more by completing the podium and becoming the youngest world champion in Formula 1 history. Russell was classified sixth in Mexico, falling behind Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton to fourth in the drivers' championship. He had already been in the stewards' crosshairs during the race itself, collecting a 10-second penalty for sending Isack Hadjar's Red Bull into a spin. His final result now stands subject to the outcome of the stewards' investigation into his post-race absence.
