Roosters Great Daniel Tupou Announces Retirement After 15 Seasons
Sydney Roosters legend Daniel Tupou has called time on his career, finishing as the club's greatest-ever try-scorer with four premierships across 307 games.

Sydney Roosters great Daniel Tupou has announced his retirement from professional rugby league, closing one of the most decorated careers in the club's history. The announcement came on Wednesday morning, just days after Tupou helped the Roosters secure the 2026 NRL premiership, his fourth title with the Tricolours. Tupou was the definition of a one-club man. Rooster No. 1130 made his NRL debut against Canberra in Round 24 of the 2012 season and never played anywhere else, going on to appear 307 times across 15 seasons. Success arrived early: in his first full season he scored the opening try in the 2013 Grand Final victory over Manly, and he went on to become an integral part of the 2018 and 2019 premiership-winning sides before adding a fourth ring this month. He bows out as the club's greatest-ever try-scorer with 198 tries and its second most-capped player, joining an exclusive group in 2026 as just the 57th player in NRL history to reach 300 first-grade games. His trophy cabinet also holds World Club Challenge triumphs in 2014, 2019 and 2020. "I've been thinking about this for a while, and I know the time is right for me to finish playing," Tupou said. "It's hard to put into words what the Roosters have meant to me because this club has been such a big part of my life."
