Richardson's Five-Wicket Burst Sparks Stunning WA Fightback at the WACA
Jhye Richardson tore through Queensland with 5 for 19 as Western Australia bowled the visitors out for 68 to set up a thrilling final-day chase in their Sheffield Shield opener.

Jhye Richardson has put his name back in the national conversation, ripping out five Queensland wickets for just 19 runs to drag Western Australia from the brink and set up a gripping final day at the WACA Ground.
Queensland had controlled the first two days of the Sheffield Shield season opener in Perth, but Saturday belonged entirely to the home side. After Test hopeful Xavier Bartlett's 5 for 48 helped skittle WA for 175 in their first innings, Joel Paris struck twice in the opening over of Queensland's second dig before Richardson ran riot. The visitors collapsed to 5 for 13 on the way to a sorry 68 all out, leaving WA a target of 201.
The chase was far from straightforward. WA slumped to 5 for 83, and with illness already ripping through their camp — debutant Tom Murray was substituted on day two and Jayden Goodwin was omitted before the toss — the hosts were on the ropes. But Aaron Hardie (48 not out) and Paris (19 not out) added an unbeaten 51 to steer WA to 5 for 134 at stumps, needing 67 more when bad light ended play, with opener Sam Fanning an injury doubt after hobbling off.
For Richardson, 30, it was a timely reminder of his quality after years of injury setbacks. With four Tests to his name since his 2019 debut and a heavy international workload looming, a sustained fit season could yet force the selectors' hand.
