Canelo Alvarez's trainer Eddy Reynoso says he would like Terence Crawford next, but the team will rest first after the Mexican star reclaimed the WBC super middleweight title from Christian Mbilli.

Reynoso Wants Crawford Rematch Next for Canelo After Mbilli Win

Canelo Alvarez is barely out of the ring in Riyadh and already the question of what comes next is being asked, with trainer Eddy Reynoso naming Terence Crawford as the opponent he would like to see. Speaking after Alvarez beat Christian Mbilli by unanimous decision to reclaim the WBC super middleweight title, Reynoso said the team would rest first and then see what follows, but made his preference plain: Crawford, the man who beat Alvarez by unanimous decision in September 2025 and cost him his undisputed crown. Mbilli had been elevated to WBC champion after Crawford retired, so a rematch would carry the weight of unfinished business for the Mexican star. Alvarez himself offered no immediate commitment, saying only that he was going to rest, keep learning and keep working hard. That caution is understandable after a gruelling twelve rounds against Mbilli's aggressive style, but the wider picture is already forming, with February standing out as the anticipated month for Canelo's return and both Jaime Munguia, the WBA world champion, and Lester Martinez mentioned as strong contenders. For now, though, the Crawford name leads the conversation, and if the former undisputed champion can be tempted back, boxing would have its biggest rematch in years.
