Red Bull Extends F1 Boss Laurent Mekies' Contract Through 2031

Red Bull has moved to secure its future beyond the cockpit, handing team principal Laurent Mekies a contract extension that keeps him at the helm until at least the end of the 2031 Formula One season.

The deal, announced on Wednesday, locks in the Frenchman who took over from the ousted Christian Horner in July 2025. It follows a string of renewals across the Milton Keynes operation, with both four-time world champion Max Verstappen and teammate Isack Hadjar already committed, alongside several other key personnel.

Team shareholders Chalerm Yoovidhya and Mark Mateschitz said the extension reflected their confidence in Mekies' leadership, crediting him with guiding Red Bull through an important period of transition while keeping the team's competitive spirit intact.

The timing is no accident. Verstappen has won the last two grands prix — in Malaysia and Singapore — and heads to Austin next week chasing a third straight victory as the United States Grand Prix kicks off. Red Bull sit fourth in the constructors' standings but are closing in on champions McLaren, with only seven points separating them.

In the drivers' championship, Verstappen lies fourth after missing out on last year's crown by two points, and is locked in a tight fight with Mercedes' George Russell and Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton for second place behind runaway leader Kimi Antonelli.
