Rain Ruins Gabba Finale as Queensland and Victoria Share Shield Spoils

Queensland and Victoria have played out a frustrating draw at the Gabba after wet weather washed away any chance of a result on the final day of their Sheffield Shield clash. Victoria began the day holding a lead of 163, and their last pair of recognised batters, Liam Blackford and Will Sutherland, offered the only real resistance before Queensland wrapped up the innings, taking the final four wickets for just 15 runs. Victoria were eventually bowled out for 173, leaving Queensland a target built around a lead of 200, and the stage looked set for a thrilling finish. Instead, the rain had the final say, with Queensland closing on 3-75 when play was abandoned, first-innings centurion Jack Clayton unbeaten on 10 alongside Lachie Hearne. The bowling honours for the innings were shared, with Jem Ryan claiming 3-38 and Mitch Swepson 3-52, while Hayden Kerr produced the morning's highlight with two wickets in a single over. But the bigger concern for both camps may be fitness. Victoria's Fergus O'Neill appeared to be troubled by neck tightness, while Ryan did not bowl at all on the final day and is awaiting scan results on a possible side strain. Queensland collected 2.73 points to sit third on the ladder, while Victoria took 2.87 points but remain winless and bottom after three rounds.
