Cameron Norrie's miserable run of form continued in Shanghai on Thursday, as the British No. 2 fell 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 to Czech qualifier Dalibor Svrcina in the first round of the Rolex Shanghai Masters. The 31-year-old left-hander, ranked 40th in the world, arrived in Shanghai hoping to halt a three-match losing streak that included an opening-round exit at the US Open and first-round defeats in his two previous stops in China. Instead, he was beaten for a fourth straight time on the ATP Tour, and this was the cruelest of them all — a loss to the world No. 126. Svrcina, a 23-year-old qualifier from Ostrava, has now come through qualifying in Shanghai three years running and won his first-round match on each occasion. Facing Norrie for the first time, the Czech recovered from dropping the second set to close out the decider and book his place in the second round, extending Norrie's horrid run and deepening questions about where the former Indian Wells champion goes from here.
