Qatar Grand Prix Confirmed as Marquez Backs Riders' Union Call

The MotoGP race in Qatar next weekend will be held as planned, Gresini Racing rider Alex Marquez confirmed during a press conference held before this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix. The Madrid native made the statement as riders gathered at Sepang, where the championship heads for round 19 of 22 from October 30 to November 1. Despite concerns expressed by some riders about race conditions in Doha, Marquez indicated that the organisation is determined to proceed with the event. "No one knows what has changed regarding Qatar. The reality is that it seems the race is confirmed and that's how we should take it," he said. His comments highlight the uncertainty that persists among riders about their ability to influence decisions affecting their races. Marquez also used the occasion to argue for a stronger collective voice for riders. "I think it's important to create a riders' association. What's happening to us right now makes us realize that we need a stronger union," he added. The MotoGP community will hope those voices are heard, not only regarding the Qatar issue but also in the future management of the championship, as the title fight enters its decisive phase in Malaysia this weekend.
