PSG–Lyon Rescheduled to Monday as Paris Braces for Fresh Protests
Ligue 1's biggest weekend fixture has been moved off Sunday after Paris police banned the match amid planned city-wide protests, piling pressure on an already strained weekend that also includes the NFL's first Paris game.

Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 clash with Olympique Lyonnais will not go ahead on Sunday after police authorities banned the match over security fears, forcing the league to reschedule it for Monday night. The French league confirmed the move on Friday, pushing the Parc des Princes showdown to 8:30 p.m. local time on October 26, following an order from the Paris police prefecture citing serious concerns about public safety.
The decision lands as Paris prepares for another weekend of demonstrations, with troops reinforcing police after rioting and looting swept through the capital and other French cities on October 17. Authorities are mounting a massive security operation for protests planned on Saturday, and the original Sunday slot for PSG–Lyon — one of the league's showcase fixtures — was deemed unworkable.
The disruption now cuts across the capital's sporting calendar. The NFL's first regular-season game in Paris, between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints at the Stade de France on Sunday, sits roughly ten kilometres from Place de la Bastille, where Saturday's protests are expected to begin, and Toulouse's home Ligue 1 match against Troyes was also shifted from Saturday to Sunday at the request of local authorities. Monday's rearranged kickoff means the game will share the day with the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London, where injured PSG duo Ousmane Dembélé — the 2025 winner — and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are among the contenders for this year's award.
