Kevin Sinfield arrived at Windsor Castle on Wednesday as one of Britain's most admired sportsmen and left it as Sir Kevin, after the Prince of Wales presented him with a knighthood at an investiture ceremony.

The 46-year-old — England rugby union coach and former Leeds Rhinos and England rugby league captain — was one of 60 people honoured, receiving the award for services to the motor neurone disease community and to league and union rugby. It comes just days after he completed his "7 in 7" challenge: seven ultramarathons in seven days, finishing at Old Trafford before the Super League Grand Final, where he was surprised at the line by Prince William and Princess Catherine.

Sinfield's fundraising crusade, inspired by his late friend and team-mate Rob Burrow — diagnosed with MND in 2019 and died in 2024 — has raised more than £11 million for MND charities. William had previously presented both men with CBEs at Headingley in January 2024.

Speaking afterwards, Sinfield said Burrow would have been "laughing" but "enormously proud," adding that he was "massively humbled by the whole experience" and accepted the honour "on behalf of the MND community and their families."
