Piastri Stripped of Mexico Points Finish After Stewards Blame Him for Lindblad Crash

Oscar Piastri has lost his points finish at the Mexico City Grand Prix after stewards penalised him for his late collision with Arvid Lindblad. The McLaren driver and Lindblad came together on lap 59 as Piastri tried to pass around the outside of turn one, sending the Racing Bulls car into the barriers and bringing out the safety car. Piastri continued despite significant damage to his car and crossed the line in seventh, but after hearing from both drivers and reviewing video and positioning data, the stewards ruled that he was responsible. They found that Piastri had never been fully alongside Lindblad and therefore had no right to claim the corner, a breach of the FIA International Sporting Code. The post-race penalty cost Piastri the six points from seventh place and compounded a difficult weekend in which he had started 12th after a disappointing qualifying session. The revised classification promotes Franco Colapinto to seventh, Liam Lawson to eighth, Pierre Gasly to ninth and Gabriel Bortoleto into the final points place in tenth. Max Verstappen won the race, while Kimi Antonelli sealed the world championship in third.
