Paul Ends Halys' Dream Run in Paris to Reach Quarter-Finals
Tommy Paul beat Frenchman Quentin Halys 7-6(3), 6-4 in the Paris Masters last 16 on Thursday, ending the home hope's run and keeping his own ATP Finals hopes alive.

Twelfth seed Tommy Paul ended Quentin Halys' dream run at the Rolex Paris Masters on Thursday, beating the Frenchman 7-6(3), 6-4 in the last 16 to reach the quarter-finals. The win keeps the American's hopes of qualifying for the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin alive, with the event set for November 15-22. Halys, ranked No. 46, had produced the biggest win of his career a day earlier, saving four match points to beat seventh seed Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(9), a result that also secured Arthur Fils a place at the ATP Finals. But Paul, who had routed Daniel Merida 6-1, 6-1 in just 48 minutes in the previous round, proved too steady, taking the first-set tiebreak 7-3 before closing out the second set 6-4. Paul, ranked No. 14 in the world, will next face third seed Ben Shelton or Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, who meet later on Thursday on Court Central. Elsewhere in Paris, Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the quarter-finals after Matteo Berrettini withdrew from their last-16 meeting, giving the second seed a walkover into the last eight.
