Padres Trio Andujar, Giolito and Canning All Hit Free Agency
Miguel Andujar, Lucas Giolito and Griffin Canning are all free agents after the San Diego Padres declined their ends of mutual options for 2027.

The San Diego Padres have added three more names to baseball's growing free-agent market, announcing that Miguel Andujar, Lucas Giolito and Griffin Canning are all free agents after mutual options for 2027 were declined. San Diego declined its end of the options for pitchers Giolito and Canning, while Andujar declined his end of his own mutual deal. Andujar will receive a $2.9 million buyout from his declined $8 million option, Giolito's $8 million option carried a $1.5 million buyout, and Canning's $5 million option came with a $1.8 million buyout. Andujar, entering his age-32 season, was used mostly as a designated hitter by San Diego in 2026 after signing a one-year deal last winter. Giolito had to wait until well into April last year before landing a one-year guarantee, while Canning ruptured his Achilles tendon in June 2025 and did not make his 2026 debut until May, finishing with a 5.68 ERA over 88 and two-thirds innings. Mutual options are rarely exercised by both sides, so none of the three decisions came as a surprise, and a reunion with San Diego remains possible for all three given the Padres' holes in the rotation, bullpen and outfield.
