Oilers Place Hyman on Injured Reserve With Stiff Neck After Englund Hit

The Edmonton Oilers have placed forward Zach Hyman on injured reserve with a stiff neck, head coach Mike Babcock announced on Wednesday. Hyman sustained the injury during Monday's 4-3 shootout loss to Detroit, when his head banged against the glass on a hit from Red Wings defenceman Andreas Englund at 7:36 of the second period. Babcock said the team was being extra cautious, explaining that what initially looked like a possible head injury turned out to be a neck issue, which he described as good news under the circumstances. Hyman will miss Wednesday's game against Calgary, and there is no timeline yet for his return. The setback continues a frustrating season for the 34-year-old, who has just one goal in six games and already missed the first six contests of the campaign while recovering from an upper-body injury sustained in the preseason. Last season Hyman scored 31 goals and 52 points in 58 games, and Edmonton will badly miss his net-front presence. There was better news elsewhere on the injury front, with forward Jason Dickinson set to return after six games out and defenceman Mattias Ekholm expected back after missing two games with a concussion.
