New Zealand fast bowler Will O'Rourke will miss the entire home series against India — both the ODIs and the Tests — as the Black Caps prioritize his long-term fitness ahead of December's tour of Australia.

O'Rourke Ruled Out of India Series as New Zealand Take the Cautious Route

New Zealand have ruled paceman Will O'Rourke out of the whole of India's upcoming tour, confirming on Friday that the 25-year-old will sit out both the ODI and Test series as a precaution while he continues his rehabilitation from hamstring and calf injuries.

O'Rourke tore his left hamstring on the final day of the third Test against England at Nottingham in late June, then strained his calf in a training session in August. Although he was in contention for selection against India, New Zealand Cricket said the decision was taken with one eye on the demanding four-Test tour of Australia beginning in Perth on December 9.

"It is obviously disappointing for Will to have to miss such a marquee tour at home against India," said head coach Rob Walter. "He was set to feature in both the ODI and Test series, but we all agreed it was best for him to take some more time to rehabilitate both injuries and safely build up his bowling loads."

It is the latest cruel setback for a bowler whose career has been repeatedly interrupted. A back stress fracture sidelined him for seven months from August 2025 before he returned on the tour of Bangladesh in April, and he then played all three Tests in England in June. O'Rourke was a menace to India's batters in their historic 3-0 series win in the subcontinent in 2024, taking seven wickets at 18.42, and New Zealand will hope the cautious approach has him firing for the trans-Tasman battle.
