NFL Clears Josh Jacobs and Jonathon Cooper to Return in Week 7 After Six-Game Exempt List Spells
The league notified both players Friday that they will come off the commissioner's exempt list, making the Packers' lead running back and the Broncos' pass rusher eligible to return in Week 7 while their personal-conduct reviews continue.

The NFL announced Friday that Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs and Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper will be removed from the commissioner's exempt list, clearing both to practice and play in Week 7. Jacobs comes off the list on Monday and would be eligible for Green Bay's matchup with the Detroit Lions; Cooper was removed Friday and is available for Denver's tilt with the Arizona Cardinals.
Neither player has appeared this season. Both were placed on the list on Aug. 30 because of separate legal troubles, and the league emphasized that its reviews of each under the personal conduct policy remain ongoing. It is unclear whether the six games missed will count as time served or whether suspensions could still follow.
Jacobs, 28, pleaded no contest on Sept. 10 to misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property stemming from a May arrest. Under the reported plea agreement he must avoid contact with his accuser, undergo counseling, remain under criminal justice supervision and pay restitution. He rushed for 929 yards and 13 touchdowns last season and 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2024.
Cooper, 28, was arrested twice in June on charges including a felony alleging strangulation and misdemeanor domestic violence and harassment counts. He has pleaded not guilty, and a Nov. 10 jury trial is scheduled.
