Mexico to Face Jamaica in Concacaf Nations League Quarterfinals

Jamaica's 1-1 draw in Honduras on Monday locked in a November home-and-away quarterfinal against top-seeded Mexico, with a place in the Nations League semifinals and a direct route to the 2027 Gold Cup on the line.

Mexico finally know their path to the Concacaf Nations League semifinals — and it runs through Kingston.

Jamaica's 1-1 draw with Honduras in Tegucigalpa on Monday sealed second place in League A Group B for the Reggae Boyz, pairing them with top-seeded Mexico in a home-and-away quarterfinal series in November. The winners reach the Final Four in March 2027; the losers drop into the Gold Cup prelims and must win a two-legged tie that same month just to reach the 2027 continental championship.

It is a familiar rivalry with real recent edge. The two sides played out two draws in the 2022-23 edition of this competition, before Mexico took the bigger prizes — a 3-0 semifinal win at the 2023 Gold Cup and another victory in their 2024 Copa America group meeting.

Mexico arrive with questions of their own. El Tri reached the round of 16 at the home World Cup but are still chasing a first win under new manager Rafa Marquez, and face Chile in a friendly on Tuesday night after drawing with Colombia and Peru and losing 3-0 to the United States.

Jamaica, who missed the World Cup after a playoff defeat to DR Congo, started their group campaign brightly with a 3-2 win over Guatemala before a loss in Kingston and a recovery win in El Salvador set up Monday's decisive draw.
