Medvedev Tames Tsitsipas in Straight Sets to Reach Third Straight Shanghai Quarterfinal
Fifth seed Daniil Medvedev ended his long-running rivalry chapter against Stefanos Tsitsipas in style, winning 6-4, 7-5 at the Shanghai Masters to reach the last eight at the tournament for the third consecutive year and set up a quarterfinal against Tommy Paul.

Daniil Medvedev is back in the Shanghai Masters quarterfinals after a composed 6-4, 7-5 win over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the latest instalment of one of tennis's most combustible rivalries. The fifth seed needed just 84 minutes on Wednesday at the Qi Zhong Tennis Centre, producing his cleanest display of the week to extend his head-to-head lead over the Greek to 11-5.
There were none of the verbal fireworks that have marked past meetings — Medvedev simply out-served and out-steadied his opponent. He did not face a single break point, struck 10 unforced errors to Tsitsipas's 18, and repeatedly targeted the backhand wing to keep rallies on his terms. A composed "I love Shanghai" message to the crowd followed at match's end.
The win makes Medvedev only the fourth player after Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray to reach the last eight in Shanghai in three straight years, and the 2019 champion is still to drop a set this week. Chasing a fourth title of 2026 and his first Masters 1000 crown since 2023, he sits eighth in the live race to the ATP Finals.
Next up is Tommy Paul, who beat Zizou Bergs 7-6(5), 6-4 to complete the quarterfinal lineup in the bottom half. The American has emerged as one of the form players of the week, and the Medvedev-Paul meeting is now the standout tie of the last eight.
