Medvedev Saves Match Point to Beat Norrie and Reach 100th Tour Quarter-Final

Daniil Medvedev produced a remarkable escape to beat Britain's Cameron Norrie 4-6 6-3 7-6(1) at the Vienna Open on Thursday, reaching his 100th tour-level quarter-final and extending his winning streak to six matches. The former world number one dropped the opening set and twice recovered from a break down in the decider, saving a match point when Norrie served for victory before dominating the tiebreak 7-1. Medvedev's frustration had boiled over early in the final set, when he repeatedly struck the court after falling 0-2 behind, but he regrouped to keep alive his hopes of qualifying for the season-ending ATP Finals. The win followed his title defence at last week's Almaty Open and kept his late-season charge on track. Medvedev will next face French qualifier Adrian Mannarino, who stunned eighth seed Jakub Mensik in the round of 16. Norrie, meanwhile, was left to rue a golden chance, having served for one of the biggest wins of his season before Medvedev's experience told in the closing stages.
