Medvedev Rejects ATP Finals Wild-Card Talk: "There Should Be No Wild Cards"
Daniil Medvedev says no player — including Novak Djokovic — should get a wild card into the ATP Finals, arguing the existing Grand Slam-winner provision is sufficient and Djokovic can still qualify on merit.

Daniil Medvedev has weighed into the debate over ATP Finals qualification with a typically firm opinion: there should be no wild cards at all — not even for Novak Djokovic.
Speaking after reaching the Almaty ATP 250 quarter-finals with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sho Shimabukuro, the former world No. 1 said: "There should be no wild cards." Medvedev pointed out that Grand Slam champions ranked outside the top eight already have a route into the season-ending event, and argued that provision is good enough.
Djokovic, chasing a place in Turin, can still qualify on merit through the remaining events of the season, and Medvedev cited the Serbian's strong form in Beijing as proof that a special invitation is unnecessary.
Medvedev knows the tournament well — he won the ATP Finals in 2020 — and his stance adds fuel to one of the season's most-discussed topics. He will face Terence Atmane in Friday's Almaty quarter-final, holding a 2-0 head-to-head advantage, as he continues his own push for the season finale the traditional way: by winning matches.
