McTominay Cleared for Napoli Comeback After Heart Procedure

Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay has been cleared to return to competitive football after undergoing a procedure to correct a heart arrhythmia, the Serie A club confirmed on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old Scotland international underwent a planned ablation procedure at the Spire Hospital in Manchester in September after being diagnosed with a mild, benign arrhythmia. McTominay has since completed further diagnostic tests, which showed he is fit to play, and he has rejoined full training with the rest of the squad after a spell working separately.

The clearance is a welcome boost for Napoli, who have been without the midfielder since August 30. He missed the 3-2 Serie A defeat by reigning champions Inter Milan as well as the Champions League loss to Arsenal, and Napoli now sit ninth in the Italian top flight.

With head coach Massimiliano Allegri able to call on him again, McTominay could feature as soon as Saturday, when Napoli host sixth-placed Frosinone in league action. The former Manchester United man has been an important presence in the Napoli midfield, and his return offers much-needed reinforcement as the club looks to climb the table after a difficult start to the campaign.
