McLaughlin-Phillips Stars as Australia A Complete 52-0 Shutout of USA

Australia A have completed a clean sweep of the USA Eagles, cruising to a 52-0 shutout win in New Jersey to follow up their thumping victory in the tour opener in Nashville. Bledisloe Cup debutant Harry McLaughlin-Phillips led the charge with a commanding playmaking performance. McLaughlin-Phillips scored a try and set up at least three others as the Australians blew away the Eagles just as they had in the first game, with a number of Wallabies hopefuls standing up. Tries came from Brial, McLaughlin-Phillips, Toole, Faessler, Grealy, Thomas, Ieli and Frost, with McLaughlin-Phillips converting six of eight attempts. The shutout underlines the gulf between the sides on this tour. The USA Eagles, who had already been well beaten in Nashville, could find no answer to Australia A's pace and precision, and the visitors kept the scoreboard ticking throughout in a dominant performance. For Australia, the tour has served its purpose: fringe Wallabies have pressed their claims ahead of the Nations Championship block, with McLaughlin-Phillips the standout. For the Eagles, two heavy defeats in a week leave plenty to work on before their next Test assignment.
