McLaren Bring 2027-Flavoured Upgrade to Brazil as Development Race Continues

McLaren are not winding down for the winter. The team will bring a further upgrade to this weekend's Sao Paulo Grand Prix at Interlagos, with revisions to the front wing, rear wing and floor, as part of a development push that looks beyond the remaining four races of 2026 and toward the 2027 car. Chief technical officer for aerodynamics Peter Prodromou described the package as part of the team's normal development cycle, but the timing is significant. Interlagos is regarded as a representative circuit, a place where genuine gains show up rather than being masked by track-specific quirks, and McLaren believe the updates can help them take another step forward. The team slipped to fourth in the constructors' championship after Max Verstappen's win in Mexico City, falling 17 points behind Red Bull, while Lando Norris finished fifth in Mexico. With the drivers' title already settled and Mercedes closing in on the constructors' crown, the fight for position behind them is still live. McLaren's Brazil package is therefore about more than one weekend: it is a test of ideas that could shape next season, run in anger on a track the team rates highly.
