McIlroy Confirms Dubai Return, Chasing Record-Tying Eighth Race to Dubai Title
Rory McIlroy announced he will contest the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai next month, where he can tie Colin Montgomerie's record of eight Race to Dubai titles.

Rory McIlroy has confirmed he will return to Dubai for the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in November, setting up a dramatic finale in the race for European golf's season-long crown. The 37-year-old is chasing a record-tying eighth Harry Vardon Trophy, which would draw him level with Colin Montgomerie's benchmark of eight Order of Merit titles. McIlroy currently sits second in the Race to Dubai standings behind Patrick Reed, though he has made significant ground since a share of second place at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth last month. "Getting to eight and drawing level with Monty would mean a lot," McIlroy said. "He was an amazing player to watch when I was growing up, and the Race to Dubai is something I've always taken a lot of pride in. To have the opportunity to win it again, and potentially match Monty's record, would be a pretty special way to finish the season." McIlroy has already enjoyed a remarkable 2026, successfully defending his Masters title in April to become only the fourth back-to-back Green Jacket winner after Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods. He owns a formidable record on the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates, winning the event in 2012, 2015 and 2024. Reed, who withdrew from the BMW PGA with a wrist injury and also skipped the Dunhill Links, is also confirmed for Dubai, where the Race to Dubai title will be decided across the Abu Dhabi and Dubai playoff events in November.
