McDavid's Historic Night Leads Oilers Past Rangers 4-1 at Madison Square Garden
Connor McDavid scored 50 seconds in and extended his season-opening point and assist streaks to 15 games as Edmonton stayed unbeaten on the road with a 4-1 win over the New York Rangers.

Connor McDavid delivered another historic night as the Edmonton Oilers remained unbeaten on the road with a 4-1 victory over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The Oilers captain scored on a coast-to-coast move just 50 seconds into the contest, his ninth goal of the season, and added an assist to extend his season-opening point streak to 15 games for the second time in his career. The assist was equally significant: it stretched McDavid's season-opening assist streak to 15 games, with 30 assists already, making him the fastest player ever to reach 30 assists in an NHL season. He finished the night with 39 points, leading a scoring race in which his own teammates Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard sit second and third. Colton Dach posted his first career two-goal game and Matt Tomkins made 28 saves in his Oilers debut as Edmonton secured a seventh straight road victory. Pavel Dorofeyev scored for the Rangers, who dropped a fourth straight game and fell to 1-5-1 in their past seven. For McDavid, whose 2021-22 season began with a 17-game point streak, this start is already rewriting the record book — and the season is only 15 games old.
