Matthews' 11th Goal Lifts Leafs Past Slumping Canucks 4-2

Auston Matthews scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season as the Toronto Maple Leafs snapped a two-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night. William Nylander and Teddy Blueger each had a goal and an assist, and Zack MacEwen also scored for Toronto, which finished a four-game road trip with two wins and two losses. Nylander opened the scoring just 83 seconds in before Brock Boeser tied it for Vancouver. Matthews restored Toronto's lead at 3:47 of the second period, beating Leevi Merilainen on the short side after a slick exchange with defenceman Darren Raddysh. MacEwen added breathing room during a scramble midway through the second, and Blueger's empty-net goal sealed it, with goalie Anthony Stolarz — who stopped 26 shots — picking up an assist on the play. Max Sasson pulled Vancouver within a goal early in the third, but the Canucks (3-12-1) could not complete the comeback and have now won just once in their last 13 games. Toronto (8-6-2) returns home to host Utah on Tuesday, while Vancouver welcomes Anaheim the same night.
